The Malaysian government is currently reviewing the country’s Communications & Multimedia Act. Net Merdeka, a coalition of civil society organisations in Malaysia, was formed in February in response to a growing number of proposals to regulate the Internet through the CMA review. Some of these proposals would deny Malaysian Internet users fundamental digital human rights and include increased censorship and control of content, limits to freedom of expression, bulk surveillance and infringement of privacy rights. We must let the government know Malaysia wants its Web to be free and open. Malaysian citizens can use this handy guide to write a letter to their MP urging them to block the dangerous amendments proposed.
