JOHOR BARU: Police have detained a 48-year-old man suspected of posting an offensive statement against Tunku Mahkota of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim on social media.
Johor district police chief Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the suspect was detained following a police report lodged at 10am on Friday.
He said police intercepted the man at Proton Holdings Bhd, Taman Perindustrian HICOM, Batu Tiga near Shah Alam at approximately 5pm on the same day.
“Police seized two mobile phones with SIM cards believed to have been used to upload the statement,” he said in a media statement here on Saturday.
The case is being investigated under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a fine of up to RM50,000 or one year’s jail or both on conviction. – Bernama
