PETALING JAYA: Former Cabinet minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim has given his statement to the police over his “crooked” tweet that was deemed seditious.
Zaid and fellow lawyer Gobind Singh Deo, as well as former Bersih 2.0 co-chairman Datuk S. Ambiga and a few opposition MPs, walked into the Bukit Aman complex at about 11am yesterday.
Coming out about an hour later, he told reporters that the matter was being investigated under the Sedition and Communications and Multimedia Acts.
Last week Zaid tweeted “Looks like if you are a crooked PM, all you have to do is appoint a crooked AG, and the court will not interfere”.
He sent out the tweet after the High Court ruled that the Attorney-General, in exercising his power to make the decision not to prosecute the Prime Minister over claims regarding a RM2.6bil donation, could not be challenged in court.
It threw out three applications for leave to initiate judicial review proceedings, one of which was Zaid’s.
The remaining two were from former Batu Kawan Umno division deputy head Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan and the Malaysian Bar.
Soon after, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar tweeted that the police would summon Zaid to record his statement.
On another matter, Zaid confirmed that he would be attending the Saturday rally.
“Kita nak bersihkan segala yang kotor (We want to clean all that is dirty),” said Zaid.
