PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Crime Watch (MyWatch) chairman Datuk R. Sri Sanjeevan Nair was charged in a Sessions court here with insulting Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar on social media.

Sanjeevan, 32, is accused of using a Facebook account with the profile name “Sri Sanjeevan Ramakrishnan” to post the said offensive comment.

The posting was read at a kiosk in USJ 1 area, Subang Jaya, at 11.30am on Sept 5.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Nordin Ismail proposed bail at RM5,000.

In asking for a lower bail, Sanjeevan’s counsel S. Preakas suggested that bail be set at RM2,000 because the punishment for the offence was only a fine.

Judge Azhaniz Teh Azman Teh later fixed bail at RM3,000 in one surety pending mention on Nov 28.
