JOHOR BARU: A 58-year-old man was nabbed by the police at an eatery in Ipoh for posting insulting remarks about the Johor Sultan on Facebook.
Johor police received a police report regarding the matter at 11.20am on Tuesday (March 7) and immediately contacted its Perak counterpart to aid in the arrest, said state police chief Comm Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd.
He said the man was arrested at Dataran Perpaduan Bercham Raya, Ulu Kinta in Ipoh at 11.30pm on Tuesday.
The man’s mobile phone and simcard were also confiscated.
The suspect would be invested under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 which carries a maximum RM50,000 fine or up to one year’s jail, or both.
