GEORGE TOWN: Former DAP member Hew Kuan Yau (pic), popularly known as “Superman”, has been arrested for allegedly insulting the Prime Minister and his wife on Facebook.

Hew, who is Penang Asia Comic Cultural Museum curator, was picked up by three policemen at the museum in Komtar at around 1.17pm yesterday.

Accompanied by lawyer R.S.N. Rayer and a few DAP members, Hew arrived at the Patani Road police station at around 2.55pm.

When met outside, Rayer said Hew was being investigated under the Communi-cations and Multimedia Act 1998.

“Police, however, could not say which section of the Act he is being investigated under.

“We only know a police report was lodged in Kulai, Johor. He was denied bail and police officers from Johor will be driving him to Johor Baru tonight,” he said before leaving the station at 4pm.

Hew is expected to be produced at the Johor Baru magistrate’s court for remand today.

It is learnt Hew, in a posting at 6.16pm on March 13, had allegedly made reference of the Prime Minister and his wife to the Disney characters in the movie Beauty and the Beast.

In JOHOR BARU, state police chief Comm Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the case was being investigated under Section 233 (1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or services to make an offensive remark with the intent to annoy, abuse or harass another person.
