18 Reasons to Buy or NOT to Buy the Turboant X7 Pro

The Turboant X7 Pro may not be the new kid on the block anymore, but there’s no denying that it still represents excellent value for money.

This is a model that was and remains one of the most popular electric scooters ever made. It’s conquered every city in the US – and many beyond – on the strength of its detachable battery, chart-topping performance, and impressive ride quality.

The X7 Pro has now been superseded by the X7 Max and if you have the extra budget, the latter’s upgraded spec sheet may be too tempting to resist. Nevertheless, you can still buy the X7 Pro. So, to help you make the right decision, I’ve assembled a list of the reasons why you should and shouldn’t buy the Turboant X7 Pro.

Reasons For

15 Reasons to Buy the Turboant X7 Pro

1. On its release, it retailed for $549.98. Now, it retails for between $399.98 and $439.98. Either price represents incredible value.

2. The 36V 350W motor delivers a top speed of 20 mph and accelerates to 15 mph in 7.1 seconds. This performance outstrips all other models in its price class, making it a top performer in the budget scooter category.

3. The detachable 36V 10Ah battery has a maximum range of 30 miles (or 16 miles if you ride fast). This can be doubled with the purchase of a spare ($170), meaning you can extend your scooter’s mileage indefinitely. You’ll not find this capacity anywhere else in the sub-$500 category – it even outperforms more expensive models.

4. With a maximum load capacity of 275 lbs, the X7 Pro is the cheapest electric scooter that can be ridden by heavy riders. According to our tests, the optimal load is anything below 245 lbs.

5. The throttle features an all-in-one command center. Not only is the throttle smooth to operate, but a duo of ergonomically positioned buttons allows you to turn the scooter on/off, activate the lights, and select the riding mode, all while keeping your hands firmly planted on the handlebars for maximum control.

6. The cruise control function is both useful and easy to use. You simply have to maintain a constant speed for 10 seconds and you’ll hear a beep. Once you’ve heard that, the scooter will maintain its speed without any further input from you. The cruise function will disable once you re-engage the throttle or pull on the brakes.

7. At only 33 lbs, the X7 Pro is light enough to be carried, making it an ideal commuter scooter.

Turboant X7 Pro Folding Mechanism

8. While the paired-back black design is sleek and the red highlights add a pop of eye-catching color, the frame is robust and durable thanks to its aluminum alloy construction. We’ve had the scooter for over 2 years and it’s withstood its fair share of wear and tear.

9. Allied with an IPX4 water-resistance rating – which safeguards the scooter from rain – it’s primed for all-weather riding.

Turboant X7 Pro Headlight

10. Because the battery is housed in the scooter’s stem, it means that the deck is higher off the ground. This gives you more protection from damage when dismounting curbs.

11. The entire deck is coated in a grippy rubber that ensures excellent grip. It’s also large enough to find a comfortable stance, even for big riders.

12. Typically, budget scooters have small solid rubber tires that lack shock absorption. The X7 Pro, on the other hand, has large 10-inch air-filled tires that do a great job of soaking up shocks and vibrations.

13. Combining a mechanical disc brake at the rear with electronic braking at the front, it comes to a stop from 15 mph in 5.0 meters. This aligns with the average braking performance of its competitors.

14. All of your key riding stats – including riding mode, speed, battery level, and status of the lights (on/off) – are easy to keep tabs on thanks to the clean and clear display that’s been seamlessly integrated into the top of the stem.

15. Equipped with a 3W LED headlight and taillight, the X7 Pro can be ridden at night through well-lit areas. Based on our tests, however, we still recommend attaching an additional light for greater visibility.

Reasons Against

3 Reasons NOT to Buy the Turboant X7 Pro

1. The throttle has a slight lag, meaning it takes the motor a second or so to respond.

2. While the removable battery is the X7 Pro’s crowning glory and a feature that Turboant pioneered, it does come with one drawback. The larger diameter and slightly awkward shape of the stem can make the scooter a little cumbersome to carry if you have small hands.

You have to adopt an open-palm grip, as opposed to clutching the stem around its entirety. Based on our experience, this is a small price to pay for the impressive performance that the battery is capable of achieving. Also, if you aren’t going to carry the scooter for extended periods, then it shouldn’t be an issue.

Turboant X7 Pro Folded

3. The folding mechanism does the job, but compared to the newly released X7 Max, its design isn’t as good. Getting the hook on the back of the stem to attach securely to the latch in the rear fender takes a bit of effort.

This isn’t a major issue, but often, when you attempt to pick the X7 Pro up, the downward pressure that you apply to the stem as you grasped it causes the rear fender to get pushed down, meaning the hook pops out of the latch. The result is that, instead of lifting the folded scooter, you end up pulling the stem away from the deck, inadvertently unfolding it.

Verdict

Bottom Line

If we were to use two words to describe the Turboant X7 Pro, they would be fun and practical.

From its industry-first removable battery, plush 10-inch tires, and chart-topping performance, to its IPX4 water-resistance rating, sturdy minimalist-cool aluminum frame, and sleek cockpit, the X7 Pro is a blueprint for a reliable and practical design that’s perfect for everyday use.

Turboant X7 Pro Deck

It’s no surprise that it remains a go-to budget scooter, especially considering that it represents the best value for money out of our entire 100+ scooter database.

Though, if you do hanker for a slightly more jazzed-up suite of specs and can afford to stretch your budget a little, then we suggest splashing out on the newer Turboant X7 Max. Not only does it feature a more refined shape with sleek, sweeping attributes, but it also benefits from an upgraded display, improved braking system, folding mechanism, and new drivetrain hardware and software that, by our tests, results in better performance across the metrics of acceleration and range.
