Make no mistake: the M10 has a snarling attitude. Its 20 mph top speed classifies it as one of the fastest scooters in its price class. Combined with a smooth acceleration that’ll take you from a standstill to 15 mph in 7.6 seconds, the M10 is perfectly primed for navigating busy city streets.
Of course, this is no match for a more expensive model like the Apollo Air 2022, which sports a 500W motor and delivers an acceleration rate that’s 25% faster, but what you lose in power, you make up in savings.
It’s worth noting at this point that to hit its top speed, you will need to ride the M10 in Sport mode, which will grant you a realistic maximum range of around 11 miles. Elsewhere, the M10’s chart-topping ride quality is bolstered by a disc and electronic brake combination. This is a standard combination for scooters in its class. While it’s always desirable to have a brake on either wheel, we found that the rear-focused braking system worked well enough to safely bring the scooter to a complete stop. From a speed of 15 mph, we recorded a stopping distance of 4.9 meters. This is in line with comparable models.
Now, the Turboant M10 is of course a budget scooter, so you’re not going to get a build quality akin to a premium model. That said, the frame is built from an aviation-grade aluminum alloy that is both lightweight and resistant to corrosion, and unlike the vast majority of other budget models, the handlebars are ever-so-slightly curved, meaning that they are angled back towards you. This elevates the ergonomics, whilst also ensuring excellent control. As for the deck, it measures 6 x 20 inches. It’s not the widest we’ve tested, but it gives you plenty of length to move both feet around and adjust your stance when necessary.
One of the M10’s key selling points – and a non-negotiable for most riders – is its portability credentials. Despite being as durable as a rhino, it weighs just 29.8 lbs, so carrying it upstairs isn't too much of an endurance test.

While this is a simple and effective system, it’s not so useful in direct sunlight.

Its expansive handlebars, spacious deck, and 10-inch air-filled tires work in sweet, sweet harmony to ensure a smooth, balanced, and controlled ride. You’ll notice the lack of springs if you stray off the beaten track, but if used for its correct purpose (i.e. riding in urban environments), then the X7 Max is a delight to ride.
The part of the scooter you’ll likely be paying the most attention to as you ride will be the display. With the X7 Max, you get the same centrally-mounted LED screen built into the top of the stem as found on the X7 Pro. However, the interface has been updated to make the digits larger and easier to read at a single glance. Also on the handlebars, you’ll find the all-in-one ergonomic thumb throttle that can be used to easily modulate your speed, switch riding modes, and turn the lights on or off.
As you may be able to guess from the name ‘Max’, one of its key upgrades is the larger frame. The stem is 2.5 inches taller, the deck is longer and wider, and the newly tapered chassis allows for an extra inch of ground clearance.
Paying special attention to the stem, it’s home to this scooter’s crowning glory – its detachable 10Ah battery. Unlike the X7 Pro, the one on the Max comes with a built-in key lock for added security. Detachable batteries are as rare as a dry day in Seattle, so to have one on a budget model is a steal.
There are a host of benefits that removable batteries bring to the table. Firstly, it makes charging easy; instead of taking the whole scooter to a power outlet, you only have to take the battery. Secondly, you can remove the battery from your scooter so thieves can’t pinch it. If you plan on riding over gentle undulations then the V8 will happily take them in its stride – anything steeper, however, and you’ll quickly notice a drop in power.
But hey, back to the positives. Turboant is the Adam Sandler of scooter brands. You know exactly what you’re getting every time: fun that you don’t have to think too hard about. Thanks to a pair of 9.3-inch pneumatic tires and its rear suspension, you’ll enjoy every mile of its range. Combined with the bulky frame, this combo delivers a well-balanced and confidence-inspiring ride that oozes control. On most urban roads the V8 soaks up the bumps and vibrations, leaving you to feel like you’re gliding along a perfectly smooth surface. The stem and folding mechanism are solid as a rock, too, thereby eliminating any rattles and stem wobble, even at 20 mph.
As with the X7 Max, the V8 has a dual braking system, with an electronic brake built into the front hub motor and a disc brake at the rear. Both operate simultaneously from the lever on the handlebars. Having the braking power funneled to each wheel usually enhances braking performance, however, under our certified tests, we were only able to achieve a stopping distance of 4.7 meters from 15 mph. That’s not as impressive as the X7 Max’s 3.0 meters, but it does stand up to other similarly priced models.
Though the V8’s boxy appearance may not be to all aesthetic tastes, one feature that does score style points is the large hexagonal display. It’s mounted in the center of the handlebars and provides a large area to display all the key riding data. One aspect that you won’t find on other scooters is the inclusion of responsive features. Here, the display responds to how hard you push on the accelerator or pull on the brake. For instance, if you pull lightly on the brakes, then just two out of the four brake bars will light up.
And let’s not go too hard on the V8’s looks; its chunkiness improves the scooter’s balance, making it easier to ride than the X7 Max which is a little top-heavy because of its stem-mounted battery. The solidly built frame is also exceptionally durable and has been designed to minimize the need for maintenance.
On the other hand, it means that the 48 lbs of weight is slightly more than you might want if you’re looking for an everyday scooter. However, most riders will be happy to let this go thanks to the 3-second folding system, silky ride quality, and outstanding range.
Indeed, the Turboant V8 has been developed for one, lofty purpose: to bring joy to mundane daily routines without causing any stress in the process. It’s a long-range mule that will delight those who value practicality above all else.

Why We Recommend It:
The GMAX Ultra is the ultimate example of how good GoTrax are at making affordable scooters look and behave like something much more expensive. Everything from the matte black finish and green highlights to those big air-filled tires gives off the impression of a $1,000+ scooter.
Yet, while the GMAX is well-built, comfortable to ride, and a real heavy-hitter when it comes to range, power is an issue. Sure, it can reach 20 mph – which is fine for the majority of everyday riders – but the reality is it falls behind the competition when it comes to acceleration.
For context, while the lower-priced Turboant X7 Max can go from 0 to 15 mph in 6.9 seconds, the heavier Ultra takes a lumbering 8.0 seconds. The villain here is the 350W motor. It means the GMAX Ultra is stricken with a lower power-to-weight ratio than the rest of the scooters in this lineup.
But let’s give credit where credit’s due – and the LG battery is a great place to start. While many scooters are powered by cheap non-branded batteries, the Ultra stands out for its 36V 17.5Ah LG unit. An LG battery boasts premium cells that can maintain maximum performance for longer. While most batteries begin to lose their capacity after a couple of hundred charge cycles, an LG one will remain at its optimum for hundreds more. This isn’t just a pleasant extra; it’s a valuable addition that will save you time and money. Armed with this bad boy, you can expect a hugely impressive range of 45 miles if going easy on the throttle, or 24 miles when riding at full pelt.
Now, while we’ve established that the GMAX Ultra is primed for long-range rides, rather than adrenaline-induced races, you’ll still be in constant need of a good set of brakes to adjust your speed and avoid other road users. Like most of GoTrax’s top-performing models, the Ultra comes with an electromagnetic brake at the front and a disc brake at the rear. Because the brake lever has been fitted with a sensor, the electronic brake kicks into action at the same time as the mechanical brake. Together, this dashing duo can bring you to a complete stop from 15 mph in 5.3 meters.
Unlike the Turboant V8 – arguably the GMAX Ultra’s most fierce rival – it doesn’t sport any suspension. However, this is largely mitigated by a set of lavish 10-inch, air-filled tires. As long as you stay on paved roads, cycle lanes, and paths, the tires soak up small bumps and vibrations.
Adding to the GMAX’s comfort credentials is the elongated deck that is large enough to take up a secure and comfortable riding position, while the frame is constructed in a way that feels steady and stable, even when carving from side to side.
The drawback to the Ultra’s strengthened, wobble-free frame, though, is that at 46.3 lbs, it’s fairly heavier. The thin stem does make it easier to carry than scooters like the Turboant V8, though.
Although the handlebars don’t fold, the efficient folding mechanism succeeds in compacting the GMAX Ultra down to a size that is small enough to fit into most car trunks or store under a desk.
When it comes to the controls, you’ll find a large display unit in the center of the handlebars. This provides a straightforward way to read your speed, distance, and battery use. There’s also a set of simple buttons and a thumb throttle that let you control the digital lock, cruise control, riding mode, and lights. While the screen itself is one of the biggest you’ll find on a scooter at this price point, GoTrax hasn’t decided to ram it with information but instead keep it simple to make it easier to take in key information in one glance.
As for the rest of the GMAX’s features, the headlight is mounted high up on the stem, though we found it wasn’t bright enough to illuminate a comforting portion of the way ahead. And so, if you want to take your scooter out after dark, we recommend getting a set of additional clip-on lights. Other features do not disappoint, however, including the IPX4 water-resistance rating and the built-in cable lock.
This is an outstanding entry-level scooter for riders who want to get started with a comfortable, reliable model that brings a few extras to the table. It’s not the quickest, but you do get an LG battery, extra-long range, quick charging, and large air-filled tires. On balance, it just about warrants its price tag.
