Built on the lightweight yet sturdy frame of the SPLACH Turbo Plus, the SPLACH Twin straddles the line between commuter and performance scooters.
It’s compact, portable, has a 28-mile range, and with dual swingarm suspension, it's exceptionally versatile. With enough power to attract the attention of more experienced riders, the Twin also provides a vast array of settings that will allow beginners to increase the difficulty level one step at a time.
Why We Recommend It:
In most cases, I recommend that a commuter scooter should not weigh more than 42 lbs. This is so that it’s light enough to be carried. However, despite weighing 53 lbs, the Twin offers enough portability to make it an attractive option for anyone making a regular commute.
The folding mechanism is intuitive, allowing you to quickly collapse the stem and handlebars into folded positions. The telescopic stem means that you can find the most comfortable height while riding but also serves to make the folded scooter smaller. Consequently, it’s a breeze to get it into the trunk of a car or store it under a desk during work hours.
As well as folding to a high standard, the SPLACH Twin is also comfortable to ride and offers more flexibility than most other models at a similar price. Both wheels have spring-based swingarm suspension, which means that you can take shortcuts along trails and over grass fields without feeling the vibration in your knees and back.
The only disappointing feature is that the 8-inch tires are solid instead of pneumatic. This means you will never have to repair a puncture, but this type of tire will never provide as smooth a ride as those filled with air. Luckily, in this case, the quality of the suspension is enough to balance out the negative effect of the solid tires, and you still get a comfortable ride.
The Twin also has a quick acceleration rate and enough power to take on moderate hills, thanks to its dual motors. While there are more expensive scooters that can beat the torque and performance of it, there are no others with dual motors at this price point. This means that you won’t find any similarly priced scooter that can match its acceleration of 0 to 15 mph in 3.0 seconds and 0 to 25 mph in 6.1 seconds.
To bring you to a safe stop, you’ll find a drum brake and an electronic regen brake on each wheel. Our tests show that from 15 mph, you will come to a complete halt in 2.8 meters. If this is too intense for you, SPLACH has included an option to reduce the strength of the electronic braking. If you’re new to scooters with brakes as responsive as this, we recommend turning them down, testing them carefully, and slowly increasing them until you get the correct strength.
You’ll find various controls on the handlebars, including brake levers, turbo settings, a dual-motor toggle, and a QS-S4 display. The display is bright enough to view the key information in direct sunlight and lets you customize a range of settings.
Unfortunately, there is one area of the Twin’s design that is disappointing. With no headlight and dim side lights, buying a set of clip-on lights is a must if you want to use the Twin at night.
All in all, the SPLACH Twin is an ideal choice if you want to get your hands on an electric scooter that can hit near 30 mph top speeds on a budget.

It may not be perfect – with some refinements to its design needed – but it represents outstanding value for money for any rider seeking a zero-hassle ride that secures a podium position finish in its price class.
Why We Recommend It:
Let’s start with the rear-mounted 60V motor. Its nominal power output of 1000W can be boosted to a peak of 1800W when firing on all cylinders, translating into a top speed of 31 mph. This is exceptionally fast for a commuter scooter that costs under $1,500, with only the SPLACH Titan and EMOVE Cruiser S able to top it.
It’s no slouch out of the blocks, either. Thanks to its enthusiastic throttle, the Vista can zoom from 0-15 mph in just 3.2 seconds and 25 mph in 6.6 seconds. This is enough acceleration to leave your heart thumping.
Indeed, there appears to be no buffer between the throttle and the motor. Though ergonomically designed, the throttle is quite jerky, which may spook riders low on experience. This can be remedied somewhat by adjusting the accelerative strength via the mobile app. Though, I’d suggest erring on the side of caution until you’re comfortable with the level of thrust that the throttle spits out.
This isn’t to say that the Vista lacks safety credentials. Through the app, you can also change the top speeds of each riding mode, and tweak your start mode via a slider. Instead of simply selecting between zero or kick-to-start, you can choose the exact speed that you want to be traveling at before the motor kicks in.
These added layers of control are especially handy when you consider the under-weighted stem. There’s little resistance in the rotation of the stem and handlebars, which impacts your stability.
The Vista gets a lot more right than wrong, though. For one, I’m a huge fan of the adjustable front and rear springs. They supply a satisfying amount of shock absorption without bottoming out.
This high level of ride quality is all the more impressive when you factor in the solid tires. Usually, the absence of air-filled tires makes for a bumpy ride, yet with the well-calibrated suspension, that’s not the case here.
In fact, the tires are a real area of strength. Not only are they impervious to punctures – a feather in its low maintenance cap – but they’re also the biggest solid tires that I’ve ever tested. This is great for balance and traction, while their deeply-patterned tread means that they perform equally well on smooth roads and dirt tracks (despite the Vista not being an off-road scooter).
Elsewhere, the large 60V 14.5Ah battery facilitates an impressive maximum range of 45 miles – or 32 miles based on my extensive range test, which included periods of fast acceleration, cruising, and multiple stops.
It’s an inclusive scooter, too. It has a load-bearing capacity of 265 lbs, which is just above average for a scooter with its task sheet. This sturdiness is reflected in its frame – let’s just say it’s big. More akin to the Mantis (a performance scooter) than to other commuter models, its 60 lbs bulk isn’t exactly conducive for portability. It does, however, come with an outstanding folding mechanism that allows you to collapse the stem in mere seconds.
Another feature worth shouting about is its triple-braking system. Sporting a front drum, rear disc, and regenerative brake, it’ll bring you to a safe stop from 15 mph in 2.4 meters – a distance that outperforms most other commuter scooters.
Then there’s the lighting rig. While the headlight could be brighter and the brake lights don’t flash, the turn signals are great additions. When in use, arrow icons light up and beep on the display.
The deck LEDs add an air of mystique, too. They cycle through different colors and patterns to elevate your visibility at night.
So, there you have it – the Fluid Vista. A scooter that combines a punch of power with a low-maintenance design and a comfortable ride.

Why We Recommend It:
The EMOVE Cruiser S is best known for its long range and ability to support riders that weigh up to 352 lbs, however, with its excellent handling, 33 mph top speed, and enough torque to overtake those in the cycle lane, it’s also primed for fast-paced rides through the city.
From stationary, you’ll reach 15 mph in 3.8 seconds and 25 mph in 10.3 seconds. This isn’t the quickest that I’ve tested, but it’s still competitive and has more than enough zip for most.
The torque from the 1000W motor is also capable of taking on moderate slopes. Its maximum incline capability is listed as 20 degrees, however, I found that it performs best on hills up to 12 degrees.
To help you moderate this power, the stars of the show are the Sine Wave controller and ergonomic thumb throttle. While some controllers give you an instantaneous hit of power as soon as you touch the throttle, others – like the one found in the Cruiser – smooth the power delivery. A good way to think about this is to compare the controllers to an on/off light switch and a dimmer dial. While the former makes a room go from pitch black to being filled with light in an instant, the latter gradually increases the light level. The result is a responsive throttle that promises a controlled acceleration rate.
The same level of control can be found in its 140 mm semi-hydraulic disc brakes. This setup is rare to see in Cruiser’s price class. From 15 mph, you’ll come to a stop in just 2.6 meters. This is a huge improvement on the braking power demonstrated by its predecessor (3.4 meters).
Another improvement comes in the form of its 10-inch tubeless car-grade tires that are now self-healing. With a front-on profile that boasts perfect curvature, you can lean into corners and carve in style while maintaining traction.
Alongside the front coils and rear shocks, the Cruiser serves up a suspension package that makes riding on roads a smooth experience.
Adding to this successful formula is a frame that’s simple yet sturdy with a bunch of features that aid its user-friendliness.
Take the cockpit, for example. Measuring 25 inches, it’s among the widest of all commuter scooters. This, coupled with the flared handgrips and easy-to-reach multi-switches, allow you to ride with a strong sense of balance, control, and safety.
The newly upgraded 4-color display lets you view key riding stats, too, while the voltmeter gives you an accurate oversight of your battery use.
Then there’s the spacious deck, multiple folding mechanisms, and bright lighting rig.
Starting with the deck, it’s both long and wide enough for you to regularly change stance. By comparison, it’s 5 inches longer than the Fluid Vista’s deck.
The telescopic stem and foldable handlebars, meanwhile, go a long way to keep the Cruiser as compact as possible.
And finally, the bright headlight that’s mounted low on the stem joins forces with the duo of button LEDs to make the Cruiser safe to ride at night. The turn signals up the ante in the safety department, too.
Ultimately, the EMOVE Cruiser S offers much more than the vast majority of scooters in its price class. Not only does it have an all-important top speed of 33 mph, but with a smorgasbord of features and a battery that delivers more range than scooters that cost over double its price tag, it’s easy to see why it’s a celebrated legend of the electric scooter world.

With exceptional attention to detail, the City 2023 encapsulates the intersection between performance, tech, and comfort, but brings a 48% bigger battery, an improved folding mechanism, and enhanced cockpit controls (among other smaller upgrades) to the package. The result is a value-busting city-slicker perfectly suited to modern life.
Why We Recommend It:
Following on from the Apollo City 2022, the City 2023 keeps all that was great about its forbearer, including the same proprietary design, triple-suspension system, and 48V 500W motor.
The motor – located in the rear wheel hub – delivers a top speed of 27 mph. While this can’t compete against scooters with dual motors, the positioning of it makes it surprisingly zippy. It's perfectly suited to the city, where its speed and acceleration are matched with control and maneuverability.
And besides, for most urbanites, an acceleration rate of 0 to 15 mph in 4.0 seconds will be fast enough. But if you do hanker for something with a little more torque, then you may want to consider the Apollo City Pro, which comes with dual motors. By comparison, it can hit 15 mph in 2.3 seconds, making it 43% faster off the line.
One thing that both of the City scooters share, though, is the upgraded 48V 20Ah battery. Complete with energy-efficient 21700 cells, this high-performance unit increases the scooter’s range from 25 to 40 miles.
And of course, when it comes to comfort on long rides, Apollo doesn’t disappoint. The deck benefits from a design that’s reminiscent of a Penny Skateboard. It tapers at the rear to a carry handle that has dual use as a kickplate for a more aggressive riding stance.
The large 10-inch air-filled tires, meanwhile, provide damping over bumps as they soak up vibrations and maintain traction. Inside each tire, there’s also a thick layer of gel that flows into punctures to prevent air from escaping.
Alongside the already impressive tires, the City also has a triple spring suspension system that guarantees a smooth ride. However, the firmness of the suspension means that it’s primed for well-maintained urban terrain, as opposed to rough potholed streets. Ultimately, you'll get the best performance if you stick to streets, bike lanes, and sidewalks.
When riding around busy streets, you need to know that you've got a good set of brakes to rely on. The good news is that the City 2023 comes loaded with front and rear drums and an independent regenerative braking system. Drum brakes can be considered a more reliable option than discs because they come as self-contained, weather-resistant units. As a result, they aren’t prone to the fading effects of water or dirt, don’t warp, and last longer.
The regen brake also serves as an excellent part of your riding experience. By pressing down on the left-hand paddle, you can modulate the strength of the regenerative system and come to a stop without having to use the mechanical brakes. Not only does this recycle braking energy back into the battery to recharge it, but it significantly reduces wear and tear on the drum brakes. When used together, the City comes to a complete stop from 15 mph in 2.1 meters.
As well as the regen paddle, the handlebars are home to a seamlessly integrated LED display and easy-to-reach riding mode, light, and turn signal controls. Everything is designed ergonomically and accentuates the user-friendly design of the cockpit.
Another great feature is the mobile app that lets you personalize your performance settings, remotely lock and unlock the scooter, and use it as a navigational device where you can follow a route to your destination.
Now, if you plan to ride at night, you’ll need a strong suite of lights. Luckily, the City delivers with a bright 500-lumen headlight, rear brake light, and turn signals that are embedded into the deck and handlebars. They're easy to operate, well-positioned, and bright.
As impressive as the lighting rig is the upgraded one-click folding mechanism. Not only does it eliminate stem wobble and improve the scooter’s stability when locked into its upright position, but a new hook system keeps the handlebars attached to the deck when folded.

Why We Recommend It:
If you haven’t yet read my review of the Apollo City 2023, then I recommend doing so since the City Pro is almost identical to it.
It shares all the same standout features, including the triple spring suspension system, the tubeless self-healing tires, and the ergonomic cockpit. It also benefits from the same efficient folding mechanism, lighting rig, and mobile app.
And yes, it sports the same drum and regen braking system that’ll bring you to a safe stop from 15 mph in a respectable 2.1 meters.
Yet, look closer and there are some key differences.
For starters, there's the fact the City Pro brandishes not one, but two 48V 500W motors. This increases its top speed from 27 mph to a fizzing 32 mph, whilst also giving it an acceleration rate that’s 28% faster.
Interestingly, despite having the same 48V 20Ah 21700 battery, the Pro’s claimed range is 8% longer, equating to 43 miles. However, I’d take this with a pinch of salt since both batteries store the same 960Wh of energy.
Like the City 2023, the battery is supported by a management system that protects it from overheating, short-circuiting, overcharging, and undervoltage. The result is a battery that will perform at a high level for a long time.
And then we have the frame. The Pro is 8 lbs heavier than its sibling (thanks in part to the extra motor), which corresponds to an increased load-bearing capacity of 265 lbs. So, if you’re a heavier rider, I’d suggest opting for it over the City 2023.
In essence, then, the Pro is the City 2023 on steroids. It’s a great option for riders who like what they see with the latter’s design, build quality, and integration of tech, but want extra zip. Sure, it’ll cost you more, but that’ll soon repay itself with the added thrill of the ride.
