VSETT 8
To get us started, we’re going to take a look at the VSETT 8, the entry-level scooter in the all-new VSETT line.
These scooters were born from the popular and well-respected Zero range and are giving plenty of my firm favourites a run for their money. They’ve got a scooter for everything, from commuting to extreme high-performance riding. One thing that’s for sure is that all of them deliver supreme comfort across a variety of terrain.
The VSETT 8 has everything you need for a smooth ride across grassy parkland.
Unlike most run-of-the-mill commuter scooters, the 8 is fitted with high-quality dual coil swingarm suspension in both the front and the rear. This means that both ends of the scooter have good damping to protect you against surface imperfections, especially those hidden by grass.
Its front pneumatic tyre also helps with this. Measuring 8.5 by 2 inches, it provides some extra cushioning so your joints won’t feel as many vibrations from the path underfoot. Air-filled tyres are well-known for this because they’re, well…filled with air. It’s like riding on an inflatable cushion.
This is why they’re usually more comfortable than solid tyres – like the one fitted at the rear of the 8, but don’t let this put you off. Although I generally prefer pneumatics, there are some advantages to their solid counterparts, namely that they won’t ever suffer a puncture and are wear-resistant. This will come in handy when venturing off well-established pathways, and luckily the 8’s suspension provides enough damping that the ride quality doesn’t suffer.
Both the front and rear tyres feature a slick tread, which delivers better performance on flatter surfaces. This smoother texture produces more traction on solid terrain, lacking the extra grip knobby tyres have on looser ground types like sand and loose gravel. They’re well-suited to grassy areas that are more compact underfoot.
They also give you a stable base to safely test the 8’s power. Although it only has a 600W single motor, it has good pick-up and decent hill-climbing torque to help you up the majority of gentle urban slopes. Its peak output of 1100W translates to a top speed of 26 mph.
To help control your speed in busy areas, the 8 is equipped with dual front and rear drum brakes that deliver consistent and reliable stopping power when you need it. Drum brakes might be slightly older braking technology, but they’re a smart choice for an off-road scooter with a top speed like this one. That’s because they’re covered in a robust casing that prevents them from dirt and water damage. They’re very low maintenance too, making them ideal if this is your first scooter.
The 8 also has an IP54 water-resistant rating. This means that the brakes aren’t the only things protected against dirt and water splashes. The entire khaki-coloured frame is too. This gives you some level of reassurance if the skies turn grey when you’re out and about.
In these instances, you’ll be grateful for the 8’s lights. It’s equipped with an LED-lit stem as well as front button LEDs and taillights. It even comes with integrated turn signals. These aren’t overly visible since they are embedded into the deck but they are a great addition.
Another thing that makes the 8 such a good choice is that it’s designed for a wide variety of riders. It can support up to 120 kg and the adjustable handlebars mean that, regardless of how tall you are, you can find a stem height that makes for comfortable riding. It also features a handy kickplate at the rear of the deck. This helps you distribute your weight evenly and makes for a more comfortable riding position.
This is a bonus given that the 8 can travel up to a maximum of 30 miles on a single charge. Realistically, you’re more likely to see between 20 and 22 miles, but this is still a respectable range for off-road routes. Recharging to full power takes around 11 hours, however, all VSETT scooters come with two charging ports, so if you double up, you’ll be back out riding in just 5.5 hours.
Another feature that’s unique to the VSETT line is the NFC lock immobilizer. This takes the form of a small NFC reader on the top of the handlebars that unlocks the scooter once you swipe your key card.
Weighing just 20.9 kg and equipped with full-featured specs, the VSETT 8 is a practical and comfortable, yet affordable choice if you’re looking for a scooter that can handle light off-roading.
Apollo Explore
The clue is in the name of this one. Going off-road is all about leaving the designated paths and your well-established comfort zone in search of something a bit more adventurous. The Apollo Explore is the perfect companion for this.
With its top speed of 31 mph, the Explore has more power than the VSETT 8 despite also being a single motor scooter. This is because it’s a bit beefier, putting out a base 1000W of power. If you let the Explore stretch its legs, riders up to 120 kg can reach up to 1400W for some high-performance riding.
Unsurprisingly, this also means that the acceleration and torque on the Explore are more impressive too. The pick-up rate on this scooter will satisfy any adrenaline junkie tendencies. When faced with an open stretch of parkland you can let loose reaching 15 mph in just 3.5 seconds. The extra power also makes hill climbs a breeze and you’ll easily be able to soar up 20% inclines without losing too much speed.
The brakes on the Explore are excellent and will help you keep this scooter’s impressive power in check. The dual disc brakes are efficient and responsive, making it easy to handle and increasing your stability across a variety of terrain. It also comes with a regenerative brake that sends a boost of power to your battery every time you slow down, helping to keep you going for longer.
Thanks to the dual spring suspension, it has a softness to it that allows you to tackle slightly rougher terrain, but it’s still stiff enough to provide good damping on hard, flat roads.
Plus, the 10-inch pneumatic tyres give you good cushioning alongside the damping of the springs. Their generous diameter makes rolling over obstacles easy, so you won’t need to worry about getting stuck in ruts or potholes. Despite their slick tread, they deliver decent traction in wet conditions so you won’t have to worry about the scooter turning into a slip n’ slide if the weather turns sour.
The Explore’s IP54 rating also gives reassurance when caught out in the rain. Although I’d recommend avoiding riding in wet conditions, this certification means that it has some protection from dirt and water splashes, so a light shower shouldn’t phase you.
Overall durability is something that the Explore excels at. Its build quality is sturdy and reliable whether you’re cruising up and down grassy slopes or maxing out the speed on the flat. However, if you do run into any issues, Apollo offers a generous 24-month warranty which is very rare in this game. Their customer support is second-to-none, available 7 days a week so you can ride confidently with complete peace of mind.
Given the range, you’ll be spending a lot of time out on the road. Conservative riders can expect to see a total travel distance of 34 miles on a single charge. Realistically – if you ride aggressively – you’re likely to see around 23 miles.
Equipped with high-quality Dynavolt battery cells (most commonly found on motorcycles), the Explore will last for thousands of charging cycles no matter what you throw at it. These batteries have shown to deliver the same level of performance as industry leaders such as LG. Their recharge time is fairly impressive too. Using a fast charger, you’ll be able to reach full battery in just 5 hours. A standard charger will take twice as long.
As well as off-roading, the Explore is also a confident nighttime traveller thanks to its many inbuilt lights. It features a low-mounted front headlight as well as dual taillights and awesome lighting strips on the stem and along the side of the deck. As soon as the sun sets, your scooter will quickly start to resemble a machine capable of intergalactic travel. Saying this, I’d still recommend purchasing an additional headlight to help improve how far you can see ahead.
One thing to bear in mind with the Explore is that it is fairly heavy. Weighing 23.6 kg, it is liftable but you won’t want to carry it around for long. However, its telescopic stem and foldable handlebars mean that it is relatively compact, so can be stored easily.
At £1,145, the Explore isn’t necessarily a cheap option, but you do get a lot of power for the price. Its many premium features make for smooth and comfortable riding across different urban terrains so that you can confidently venture off the beaten track and leave the concrete jungle behind you.
Mantis 8 Base
If you’re looking for a premium scooter that can do it all, the Mantis 8 is a great option. Designed by top scooter brand, Kaboo, this guy has a big reputation to live up to and boy does it deliver.
The Mantis 8 is all about top-of-the-range comfort and consistent performance no matter what kind of surface you’re riding on. Given that Kaboo is known for producing great off-road scooters, this shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Off-road routes can be unpredictable at the best of times, so you need a suspension system that is responsive enough to adapt to the surface you’re riding on — the 8’s suspension does just that. Made up of front and rear spring shocks, it has awesome shock absorption and enough damping to keep you comfortable when you leave the safety of a concrete pavement.
What separates the Mantis from the Apollo Explore and VSETT 8 is its superior swingarm suspension. The swingarms allow for a greater amount of travel meaning the scooter can more efficiently soak up the terrain underfoot.
This isn’t the only thing working to keep you steady, though — it boasts ultra-wide tyres for a balanced and stable ride. These air-filled babies measure 3 inches across, which is almost as wide as those on the WideWheel Pro. This increased contact patch delivers extra traction as well as producing a ride quality similar to floating.
There are a few downsides to having tyres this wide, the first one being that it’s a bit clumsier than other scooters, like the Apollo Explore. This is because they are only 8 inches high which is comparatively small. As a result, it might take you a while to get used to the 8’s handling, particularly when turning the scooter. Once you do, you can guarantee that you’ll appreciate the extra balance and softness these tyres deliver.
You’ll also be grateful for this stable base when it comes to braking, especially on grass. The 8 is equipped with high-quality dual disc brakes that respond well when pulled. It also features a regenerative brake to help give your battery a boost. Most importantly, these are brakes you can rely on to help you control the scooter, no matter where you’re riding.
Everything about the 8 is very laid back and leisurely, including its speed. Although it can hit a respectable pace of 28 mph, its acceleration is very smooth and gradual so don’t expect any stomach-wrenching take-offs here. This isn’t a racing scooter. Instead, it’s aimed at those who want to take their time and enjoy everything this awesome scooter has to offer. To put this into context, it takes around 5 seconds to hit 15 mph from a standstill, whereas the Explore only takes 3.5.
That being said, its 800W single motor still has enough torque giving it an acceleration curve that is still twice as fast as the average commuter scooter. Plus, it can get you up and over the majority of hills without too much fuss.
Just because it takes a more leisurely approach to reach its top speed doesn’t mean the 8 is lacking in the range department. It has more than enough to tackle grassy areas for up to 30 miles – giving you plenty of opportunities to explore.
When it comes to build quality and durability, it’s hard to find a fault with the Mantis 8. It’s incredibly solid and can support riders up to 120 kg. The foot deck is roomy enough for all riders to find a stance that suits them, and the convenient footrest at the back allows you to distribute your weight evenly.
If I had to be very picky, it would have been nice to see an IP water-resistance rating to accompany the stellar construction. This just gives riders a little extra bit of reassurance that all the vital parts of the scooter are somewhat protected against dirt and water. Nevertheless, the Mantis performs exceptionally well off-road – just try to avoid riding in the rain.
Weighing 22.7 kg, it is the lightest out of the Manti models. Although this is fairly hefty, and not the most compact scooter (the handlebars don’t fold like those on the Apollo Explore), it’s great if you aren’t overly concerned about portability.
The Mantis 8 retails at £1,165, which is the same price as the Apollo Explore, however, it will appeal to a very different rider. If you value luxury and comfort over eye-watering speed and acceleration, the 8 will tick all your boxes. This is a really awesome scooter that delivers a superior riding experience.

Apollo Ghost
The Apollo Ghost moves with supernatural grace, speed, and power to deliver top performance. It requires a bit of experience when it comes to safe handling, especially when going off-road, but if you know what you’re doing this scooter won’t fail to disappoint.
Do you have visions of gliding soundlessly along forest trails and hiking paths, mist curling around the foot deck of your scooter as you flit between the trees? If the answer is yes, the aptly named Apollo Ghost is the machine to bring your dreams to life.
The fact that this scooter was released on Halloween is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to its wraith-like features and ghostly attributes. Whisper-quiet and ghoulishly fast, the Ghost is a treat for any off-road enthusiast.
Its most obvious standout feature is its incredible speed. This scooter is seriously fast with insane acceleration that can rocket you from 0 to 15 mph in as little as 3.1 seconds, and up to 25 mph in just 5.3 seconds. This makes it around 11% faster than the Apollo Explore. This level of pick-up is due to its dual 800W motors. These guys can put out a peak of 2000W, responding to even the slightest touch of the throttle and blasting you up to its top speed of 34 mph.
This is a speed fiend’s dream and the awesome power and torque here will really come in handy when you’re scaling hills. You’ll be able to soar to the top of 25-degree slopes as if they were nothing more than a slight bump in the road.
There are some downsides to acceleration that’s this fast, especially when you’re venturing off-road. Primarily, you’ll need to concentrate on your steering and the way you handle the scooter to avoid any accidents, particularly when you’re taking off from a standstill. The Ghost takes no prisoners. There’s very little between applying pressure to the throttle and suddenly travelling at top speed which can be challenging if the ground underfoot is a bit loose.
Luckily, the Ghost comes fitted with robust dual disc brakes that have the strength to counteract its awesome acceleration. You’ll be able to come to a stop from 25 mph in a little over 7 meters. It also features a regenerative brake. Overall, the Ghost’s brakes are very consistent and reliable which is exactly what you want when you need to quickly react to a change in off-road terrain.
Although the Ghost is known for its high-speed riding capabilities, it also stands out for its comfortable ride quality. Like all other Apollo scooters, it’s clear as soon as you step on the Ghost that this is a priority. It’s fitted with adjustable dual spring suspension that soaks up surface vibrations for a smooth ride across uneven forest trails.
The large 10-inch tyres also help to keep your ride smooth and balanced, absorbing shocks to protect your joints. They don’t feature the knobby texture you’re likely to find on specialist off-road tyres, but their tread isn’t quite as slick as true road tyres, meaning you’ll get a good amount of traction on typical forest routes and hiking paths.
Even if you do find yourself riding over some uncomfortably large obstacles, the Ghost has the durability to handle it. Its build quality is of the highest standard with no worrying creaks and groans. The Ghost is hauntingly quiet, even when supporting riders at the top end of its impressive 136 kg weight limit.
Although I wouldn’t recommend riding your scooter in the rain, the Ghost has you covered just in case you get caught out in an unexpected shower. It has an IP54 rating which gives it some protection against dust and water damage. This, along with the aluminium fenders, will come in handy if you’re a fan of cruising down dirt tracks, or your favourite trail is looking a little soggy.
The Ghost also excels when it comes to range so that you can make the most of getting out of the city. It’s equipped with Dynavolt cells which are an Apollo favourite. These motorcycle-grade batteries have been shown to perform at the same level as LG batteries, and they’ll allow you to travel up to 39 miles on a single charge. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that if you’re an aggressive rider, this could be reduced down to around 24 miles.
Safety is never more important than when you’re heading away from urban routes, especially if you find yourself out after dark. Luckily, the Ghost has an awesome lighting setup including low-mounted lights in the front and the back as well as an LED strip down both sides of the deck. Not only does this look cool when all the lights are switched on, but they’re also super bright to keep you safe. This being said, I’d advise only riding off-road during the day when there’s good visibility.
At £1,499, the Apollo Ghost is excellent value for money when you consider the speed, power, and ride quality it offers. It’s sure to set your heart racing as soon as you look at its sleek, water-resistant frame. Plus, its awesome stack of features means that you can head off-road with confidence.

Apollo Pro 52V
Keeping pace with the Apollo Ghost, the Apollo Pro 52V is built to handle off-road terrain with ease. This scooter packs style and substance into one badass package.
There’s a lot about this scooter that makes it awesome value for money, not least of all the sheer amount of power its dual 1000W motors can put out. When engaged at their peak, you can reach up to 3200W, allowing you to hit a maximum of 40 mph. Not only that, but the acceleration will have you gasping for air, whether you’re flying along a city pavement or chasing shadows on a shady forest trail.
If your favourite off-road routes are on the hilly side, the Pro will relish the opportunity to let loose and show you what it’s capable of. Able to scale 30% hills without compromising on speed, it can handle even the heady heights of San Francisco’s streets. With one touch of the ultra-sensitive throttle, the Pro will leap off the starting line no matter how sheer the incline.
Given that the acceleration and torque on this scooter are so powerful, the Pro has been fitted with top-of-the-range dual hydraulic brakes to make sure that you’re in control and safe at all times. These are some of the best brakes available and they guarantee precise control over your stopping power. It also features a regenerative brake as well as ABS (anti-locking braking system) for the complete braking package.
A buttery-smooth ride quality accompanies the Pro’s ferocious performance, guaranteeing best-in-class comfort across multiple surfaces. This is down to its dual spring suspension system. This has great travel but can be adjusted and fine-tuned even further depending on where you’re riding. Loosen it up for a softer experience along dirt tracks, or opt for a tighter setting if you want steady and stable riding at high speeds.
The Pro’s tyres lend a helping hand when it comes to shock absorption. Measuring 10 by 3 inches, these pneumatics add some extra cushioning to your ride, helping you deal with even the most challenging of obstacles.
As standard, the Pro comes with slick road tyres, however, these aren’t your only option. Off-road tyres that feature a textured tread for ultimate traction on loose surfaces can be purchased too.
Given the Pro's durability, that maintenance is minimal. Made from forged aluminium, it’s on the heavy side at 34.9 kg, but it’s also extremely sturdy, having been built to withstand rough off-road riding conditions. The generously sized, customizable deck and dedicated rear kickplate can support riders up to 150 kg, making this a great choice for heavier adults.
It’s also largely protected from the elements, featuring an IP54 rating that allows it to withstand splashes from mud and water. I wouldn’t recommend riding in a really heavy downpour, but a drizzle won’t keep this scooter down. This is a good thing considering that its 52V 18.2Ah battery allows a maximum range of 56 miles. On a scooter with this much travel time, you’re guaranteed to run into some less than ideal conditions at some point.
The Pro does an awesome job of combining functionality and good looks, featuring a jet-black frame accented with a striking blue trim. On the handlebars, you’ll find a bell and a QS-S4 display and finger throttle, giving you visibility over your speed, mileage, and gear selection. It also acts as a gateway to a ton of configurable settings, allowing you to adjust the Pro to suit all of your off-roading needs.
At £1,699, this scooter is amazing value for money and its impressive specs easily rival those of more expensive models. It’s a great choice for a first-time off-roader and all of the added extras, plus its generous 2-year warranty makes for a great customer experience. If you want comfort and a premium but powerful off-road ride at a reasonable price, the Apollo Pro 52V is a steal.

Despite its name, there’s nothing ghostly about Apollo’s newest extreme performance scooter, the Apollo Phantom. The speed and power of this thing are as real as you and me and the only thing you’ll be haunted by is the thought of how soon you can get this baby out on the dirt tracks.

Like its sibling, the Ghost, the Phantom sports an understated and muted aesthetic. Gone is Apollo’s trademark white, black, and electric-blue colour scheme, replaced by a far more subtle aesthetic. Like a predator, it can move at breakneck speeds when it needs to. Fitted with dual 1200W motors, it can reach up to 38 mph and accelerates with gut-wrenching power, taking you from a standstill to top speed in the blink of an eye. This scooter rips up a variety of terrain with relish.
Hills will meet the same fate too. Given its awesome power, the Phantom can handle 45% inclines with ease. Its torque and acceleration rate make short work of steep slopes. It’s a good thing this scooter is fitted with hydraulic brakes that are 20mm bigger than the industry standard. Not only will this give you ultra-strong stopping power, but they also guarantee precise control over this scooter’s insane potential.
There’s no doubt that the Phantom’s hair-lifting speed and power are a big selling point, but what excites me about this scooter is how much of it has been developed specifically by Apollo, meaning that a lot of this tech is only available on the Phantom. The Canadian-based scooter company has spent a lot of time testing to make sure the end product is the best it can be.
A prime example of this is the suspension system. This is vital for off-road riding and Apollo has taken things up a gear by fitting the phantom with a quadruple system. This means you’ll find 4 springs, improving the overall damping when riding across uneven surfaces, absorbing vibrations with ease.
If this wasn’t enough, the Phantom also comes with 10 by 3.25 inch pneumatic tyres. Their wide contact patch helps with shock absorption whilst also generating increased traction for an improved ride quality both on and off-road.

It also comes with an IP54 water-resistant rating for protection against rogue splashes. The geometric fenders help with this too by keeping mud and dirt away from flicking up.

Before we dive into just why this scooter is one of my all-time favourites, let me start by saying that the Wolf Warrior is unrivalled in terms of value for money. At £2,599, it’s an absolute bargain. It might seem more expensive than some of the other scooters on this list, but given its pedigree and extreme power, you won’t find anything better for less.
So what exactly makes it the best value? To begin with, this scooter could probably go faster than my first beaten-up car – it can reach a top speed of 50 mph.
Once upon a time, this was the fastest scooter I’d ever reviewed. Nowadays, it’s been overtaken by the likes of the Dualtron X 2 (68 mph), but it remains an awesome wicked-fast option, especially if you’re looking to make your first foray into the world of extreme-performance scooters.
With its two powerful 1200W motors and 40A controllers, the Wolf Warrior is not only capable of propelling you at rocket-style speeds, but it can also climb up steep inclines with ease. To put this into perspective, Filbert Street, one of San Francisco’s steepest inclines that has a gradient of 31.5%, is no match for the Wolf.
You probably won’t come up against too many inclines like this while riding off-road (unless you’re trying to ride up a mountain) but the Warrior’s spine-tingling power means you’ll be able to scale pretty much any challenging off-road route.
Another standout feature is the distance that you’ll be able to ride it for. The majority of scooters reviewed so far in this last have been able to reach around 30 miles. These pose no competition for the mighty Wolf Warrior.
This bad boy’s huge LG battery will last for up to a maximum of 70 miles.
Let me repeat that, 70 miles.
Imagine the long-distance cross-country adventures you could have. However, if you ride aggressively off-road you can expect around 35 miles.
Alongside the speed, torque, and mileage, the Warrior has been designed for the ultimate off-road experience and as a result, it is equipped with huge 11 by 3.5 inch tubeless tyres. When you purchase your Warrior, you can decide between road or knobby tyres. I recommend the latter option since they are specifically designed for off-roading. The textured surface on them generates increased traction, giving you better balance and stability on loose, rocky surfaces.
In addition to this, it comes with front and rear-wheel drive, as well as motorcycle-grade hydraulic suspension in the front and dual springs at the back. These work alongside the cushioning of the tyres for optimum shock absorption. This makes the Warrior perfect for all kinds of terrain but gives it a serious edge if you’re a more adventurous off-roader.
Given its high performance, the Wolf Warrior has taken care of extra precautions to ensure your safety.
First on the safety list is the braking system. It comes equipped with full hydraulic brakes in the front and back and if you need it, and the option to enable an ABS (anti-lock braking system) to prevent the wheels from locking up while you brake, allowing you to maintain traction with the surface below.
In addition, the Wolf has two extremely bright front LEDs that light up the area in front of you while you ride at night. There are also lights fitted on each side of the scooter and on the rear to ensure your visibility at every angle.
It’s important to note that the Warrior weighs 45.8 kg. It folds so you can put it in your boot (providing you have a big car like an SUV) or in the back of your car but it is certainly not a scooter that is made for portability. That said, it can support riders up to 150 kg, making it ideal for heavier riders.
I highly recommend opting for the Wolf Warrior if you want a scooter that has the raw power to give you an exhilarating experience as you scale the most challenging types of terrain. It’s the ideal option if you’re looking for an affordable model to help you take your first steps into the world of extreme off-road scooters without obliterating your savings in one go.

This scooter takes everything that I love about the Wolf Warrior and turns the dial up all the way. Delightfully gaudy in gold, it doesn’t shy away from the limelight — its aesthetic dominates the scene just as much as its to-die-for specs.
Like the Wolf Warrior, the King is made for off-roading. Sure, it can handle casual city cruising, but all the while it’ll be itching to stretch its legs on challenging off-road terrain. For this reason, and because of the jaw-dropping power on offer, I’d only recommend this scooter to serious, experienced off-roaders. If you’re not used to handling a scooter of this calibre, you’re putting yourself — and others — at risk.
Now we’ve covered the serious stuff, let’s take a closer look at this bad boy and what it's capable of.
This scooter’s power is off the charts, scoring a place as one of the only scooters in the world that offers a speed as high as 60 mph. At this pace, you’ll be able to keep up with most fast-paced vehicles, especially with the King’s insane peak output of 6720W and its savagely fast acceleration rate. This beast can hit 15 mph in just 1.9 seconds and 50 mph in a mere 4.9.
Luckily, it comes with the best brakes available. Fitted with hydraulic discs, you’ll be able to stop as soon as the thought crosses your mind. These are ultra-sensitive and respond to the slightest pressure. Because of this, they take some time to get used to. Engage the rear brake first to slow you down more gradually, otherwise, you might find yourself going straight over the King’s wide handlebars.
The King gives most scooters a run for their money when it comes to torque, too. In fact, this scooter has some of the best torque I’ve come across and it laughs in the face of steep hill-climbs. It’ll snap 100% slopes up like child’s play and still have the appetite to go faster and further afterwards.
This will come in handy if your preferred off-road environment involves rocky mountainous paths. The King has everything you need to stay comfortable even when traversing along uneven tracks, but first and foremost is its best-in-class suspension system. It’s fitted with motorcycle-standard hydraulic shocks in the front, with dual springs in the back to give unparalleled shock absorption at all times.
This isn’t the only thing about the King that’s been designed to take some serious abuse. Its whole frame, featuring the two-stemmed design that we all know and love from the Warrior, has been constructed with this purpose in mind. Made from the same aluminium used for bridges and other heavy-duty structures, it’s almost indestructible, absorbing vibrations from extreme riding with admirable ease. It even features an IPX4 waterproof-resistant rating, meaning it’s protected from any wayward splashes.
Because it’s so beefy, the King’s ultra-wide, rubber deck can support a phenomenal 181 kg. This is the largest load capacity on any scooter I’ve reviewed, making it suitable for lots of different riders. However, it should come as no surprise that the King itself is extremely heavy, weighing a back-breaking 47.6 kg. This scooter is all about performance, and portability is the sacrificial lamb in this scenario.
Tyres are just as vital to off-roading as suspension and durability. This is because not only do they help out with shock absorption, but they’re also the things responsible for generating the traction that keeps you steady and stable. The King features pneumatic tyres that measure 11 by 3.5 inches. These deliver the same superb handling as seen on the Wolf Warrior.
As standard, the King comes fitted with racing road tyres, ideal for hitting those top speeds. They also do fairly well on forest paths and hiking trails, but if you’re planning on mountain riding, you’ll want to purchase specialist knobby tyres. Unlike with the Warrior, you don’t have the option to purchase the King with these tyres already fitted, so you will need to buy them separately at an extra cost.
For those times when you find yourself out on the trails in dim or overcast lighting, the King has just the thing you need to cut through the darkness: a seriously awesome lighting setup. This includes two giant, ultra-bright headlights, a rear tail light that blinks when you activate the brakes, and cool blue underdeck lights for maximum visibility.
Finally, it’s worth noting that despite its fearsome performance, the King does have a lower range than the Warrior. It can travel for up to 50 miles (around 30 miles under realistic riding conditions) on a single charge. Although this might be disappointing for some, what you lose here, you gain in speed and power. Plus, when you combine the might of a fast and standard charger simultaneously, making use of the King’s double charging ports, you can hit a full recharge and be back out on the road in just 5 hours.
When you consider everything the King has to offer, it seems crazy that you can get all of that for just £2,899. To put that into context, comparable scooters able to challenge the King’s speed and power cost almost £6,000 (I’m looking at you, Dualtron X 2). It’s an affordable way of scoring a serious high-performing scooter without the ludicrous price tag. The King is built to test the limits of what modern scooters can do — and the price tag makes it accessible for the majority of experienced riders.

Let’s round off this review with an electric scooter that has a reputation almost as huge as the incredible amount of power it can put out. A verified off-road beast, the Dualtron Ultra 2 is the successor to the much-loved Dualtron Ultra and packs a punch in all the right ways, much to the joy of off-road enthusiasts worldwide.
The key thing that sets the Ultra 2 in a league of its own is that, unlike the majority of scooters, it’s purpose-built for off-roading. Every aspect of its design has been tailored to boss rocky tracks and dirt trails for the ultimate riding experience, including its tank-like frame and beefy wheels, both of which are ideal for dealing with any off-road abuse thrown its way.
Those pneumatic tyres measure a massive 11 inches and have an ultra-wide contact patch for increased traction on a variety of surface types. However, their knobby texture means they’re especially suited to loose terrain, primarily rock, sand, and dirt. They’ll keep you balanced and stable, helping you to keep control when executing turns or jumps.
These come as standard which is great if that’s all you want to use the scooter for. However, if you were planning to use it on smooth urban paths, you’ll need to purchase road tyres separately at an extra cost to get the best out of it.
The tyres aren’t the only thing that roots the Ultra 2 firmly in the off-road category — its badass suspension helps out too. It’s equipped with dual rubber shocks in the front and the rear which is the same suspension system that you’ll find on the majority of Dualtrons.
The biggest advantage of this setup is that in the rear, you’ll find 5 different stages of adjustment. This means that you can tweak the suspension based on your terrain, moving it between soft and stiff. All experienced scooterists know that there’s no such thing as one size fits all in the world of off-roading, so this really demonstrates the consideration that’s gone into bringing this scooter to life.
You’ll be especially grateful for it on those days when you want to put the Ultra 2’s immense range to the test. Fitted with a 72V 35Ah LG battery, this thing will keep eating up that track for an incredible 87 miles. Of course, this is dependent on how you ride. Challenging routes that require more aggressive riding will cause the battery to deplete faster – expect a 40-45% reduction. Even so, this is an enormous amount of travel time so you can get the most of this scooter in its natural habitat.
Not only is the Ultra 2 an off-road beast, but it also boasts speed and power befitting of the Dualtron line. It can reach an astounding 62 mph and puts out an enormous 6640W of peak power, making it one of the fastest scooters. Its rapid acceleration rate leaves its predecessor in the dust and its muscular torque helps the Ultra 2 devour 70% inclines for breakfast. You’ll have no problem storming your way up the steepest mountain slopes.
If you’re going to be regularly tackling challenging terrain like this (and on a scooter with the same credentials as this one, why wouldn’t you?), your motors are going to be doing some serious overtime. To help with this, the Ultra 2 is fitted with two purpose-built heat sinks, similar to those seen on the original Ultra. The only difference here is that they’ve been moved to the rear of the scooter for better heat management.
They’re also the main way that the Ultra 2 protects its innards from water damage. This is reassuring to see on a scooter that might be spending a lot of time on routes without proper drainage, however, I wish the same consideration had been given to the frame of the scooter. Sadly, none of the Dualtron scooters come with an official IP certification, so be careful to avoid the rain.
This is the only real oversight in the Ultra 2’s construction, however. Everything else has been engineered to withstand the pressures of off-road riding down to the tiniest detail. It even has a reinforced neck to prevent unnerving stem wobble.
Building on the structural integrity is a handy kickplate at the rear of the spacious deck, allowing riders up to 150 kg to spread their weight evenly across the scooter and lean into the ride. This is useful if you have to brake abruptly, too.
Fitted with what I consider to be the best brakes in the business – full dual hydraulics – you can expect a smooth and gradual braking experience with sharp crispness and precise control when you need it. These are key to making you feel safe every time you hop on board and set off.
The brakes aren’t the only safety feature the Ultra 2 is fitted with. It also comes with a multitude of lights to help you see further in the dark as well as keeping you visible to other road users. The bright dual-LED headlight cuts through the dimmest of riding conditions, whilst the taillight-come-brake light, deck lights, and illuminated neck all help to boost your visibility.
The Ultra 2 is purpose-built for hours spent surfing trails and tracks, delivering unparalleled power, all whilst keeping you comfortable and safe. If the thought of racing across the unforgiving terrain at close to 60 mph sets your blood on fire, this is the scooter for you. However, it is on the pricey side — you’ll have to pay £3,350 for the pleasure.
