Best 25 MPH Electric Scooters

Choosing a scooter with a maximum speed of 25 mph is a good idea for a lot of reasons. It’s not too fast and it’s not too slow either; it can hold its own against quicker traffic but can also cruise along the bike lane… I could go on, but you get the picture. There are a ton of advantages here.

Needless to say, a 25 mph scooter is a great compromise if you’re looking for something to level up your commute and add some extra fun to your weekends. I’ve collected the best of the bunch so you can find the one that’s perfect for your needs.

When it comes to speed, having a dual-motor scooter adds a dose of power that makes all the difference. This is why the Widewheel Pro is such a great choice if you want an extra helping of adrenaline with your ride and you’re looking for something fun to level up your weekend adventures.

WideWheel Pro high-grade Aluminum Finish

Unsurprisingly, the biggest selling point of this scooter is its extra-wide wheels. They’re 8” tall and almost 4” wide; you’ll struggle to find another scooter to match these measurements at a similar price. Not only do they keep you balanced when riding at the Pro’s heart-thumping top speed of 26 mph, but the resulting ride sensation mimics a feeling of floating that is unique to this scooter.

This can take a bit of getting used to, especially if you're accustomed to making sharp turns. The Pro isn’t quite as nimble as others on the market. However, this doesn’t mean it lacks power. You’ll find quite the opposite when you hop on and hit the throttle. It has rapid acceleration and strong torque thanks to the dual 500W motors, which give it that extra punch of power to help you pull out ahead when you need to. This is the fastest scooter on this list so it’s ideal if you want to push your speed boundaries a little higher.

You’ll also find hills a breeze — the Pro can storm up 30% inclines in its most aggressive setting. Your speed won’t suffer, even if you weigh closer to its 100 kg weight limit. With its reinforced frame, this is a great choice for heavier riders who don’t want to lose the power or durability a dual-motor scooter has to offer.

WideWheel Pro Disc Brake

Such responsive acceleration requires strong brakes to keep you in control at all times. That’s why the Pro comes with front and rear disc brakes that provide strong but efficient braking power. Pressure is applied to both wheels when you squeeze the lever, rather than just one, which will bring you to a stop much faster than scooters with a single-wheel braking mechanism.

The Widewheel Pro is an excellent road scooter and delivers great ride quality in an urban environment. Its wide tyres are solid but instead of being made from rubber, they’re filled with polyurethane foam. This makes them much softer than traditional solid tyres and they have slightly better traction as well as improved cushioning against obstacles. However, they still aren’t quite as good as air-filled tyres.

WideWheel Pro Rear Wheel

Luckily, the dual spring suspension makes up for this, helping to protect your joints when riding on rough surfaces. Even so, I wouldn’t encourage you to take the Pro too far off-road. The combination of solid tyres and stiff suspension can make it a pretty punishing experience. Stick to well-maintained routes, like mountain trails, for the trademark Widewheel floating plushness.

WideWheel Pro Off-Roading

The 22 mile range on the Widewheel Pro makes it a great option for casual city exploration. It gives you enough power to explore your local area and beyond, whilst still leaving you with enough juice to get home at the end of the day. It has a recharge time of around 8 hours, which is quite long when compared against other scooters on this list with a higher maximum range.

Due to the dual motors, the Pro is on the heavier side, weighing 24.5 kg. Some people might think that the trade-off is worth it considering the power the double motors offer, but if you know you’re going to need to carry your scooter around a lot, it might be worth looking for something a bit lighter. On the plus side, it’s quite compact when folded because of its foldable handlebars, making it easy to store when you’re not using it.

WideWheel Pro Folded

Equipped with bright front and rear lights, riding the Widewheel in the dark won’t be a problem. You can control your lighting from the cockpit of the scooter, where you’ll also find the smart display which shows your speed, total mileage, and voltage. From here, you can also change between the two gears available —Eco and Power — as well as setting your cruise control when you want to give your hands a rest and enjoy the ride.

The Pro comes in two different versions: the standard and the CLE. The only difference here is that the CLE comes with a key lock that disables the scooter’s power. It’s a handy additional security feature, although the scooter can still be rolled away manually so be sure to invest in a locking mechanism of some kind if you’re planning to leave it unattended.

WideWheel Pro Headlight

This is one of the most durable scooters on the market and it's reassuringly sturdy thanks to its thicker stem and beefy frame. It doesn’t look clumsy though and channels a very slick aesthetic that is perfect for city riding.

The Widewheel Pro could be used as a commuter scooter, however, its heavier weight means it’s better suited to leisure riding. The powerful motors and rapid acceleration mean you can always guarantee a fun and thrilling ride, whilst the excellent braking mechanism and durable build make sure you’ll never feel unsafe. Plus, bagging a scooter with dual motors for £1,035 is a bargain in my books.

2. Emove Cruiser

In the usual sense of the word, ‘reliability’ isn’t necessarily very exciting. When it comes to electric scooters though, having a ride you can depend on is one of the most important things, especially when it has specs like the Emove Cruiser does.

EMOVE Cruiser Unboxing & Mini-Review | Feast Your Eyes on the Best Scooter Under £1,250

Reliable, long-range, and incredibly well-rounded, the EMOVE Cruiser ticks all the right boxes and has everything a stylish and savvy rider needs. Feast your eyes on a sequence of clips showcasing the EMOVE Cruiser’s illustrious design and features.

Equipped with a single 600W motor that boasts a peak output of 1600W, the Cruiser has no problem propelling you along at a top speed of 25 mph. Its acceleration isn’t as quick as you’d see on a dual-motor scooter like the Widewheel Pro, but it’s fast enough to allow you to put on that extra burst of speed when you need it. The torque the Cruiser offers won’t see you lagging at a stoplight and will let you get away with reasonable speed.

Emove Cruiser Frame

The scooter’s peak output is also strong enough to help you climb hills with a 10% grade. These kinds of inclines are the sort you’d regularly find in urban environments, so you won’t need to worry about the Cruiser struggling on any undulating routes you might come across.

Although the acceleration and speed on the Cruiser are decent, it’s clear that its standout feature is the expansive 62 mile range it offers. This scooter is all about going the distance so it’s no surprise that the Cruiser comes equipped with highly efficient, top quality LG batteries. Not only is this the best money can buy, but it’s also 3x bigger than batteries commonly used on other scooters that match the Cruiser for price. Impressive, right? Its recharge time is on the long side and will take around 9-12 hours to hit a full re-juice but that’s not so bad when you consider that you’ll be able to go weeks without having to plug in at all.

Emove Cruiser Rear Hybrid Hydraulic Brakes

It’s important that your chosen scooter can go as fast as you want it to, but it’s even more crucial that it can safely come to a stop as well. This won’t be a concern with the Cruiser, as it comes with dual hybrid hydraulic brakes. These are some of the best and most efficient brakes out there and having one positioned on each wheel guarantees strong and effective braking power whenever you need it.

In addition to its awesome speed and range, the Cruiser is an extremely comfortable ride. The 10” pneumatic tyres are tubeless, which means they are more resistant to flats as well as being soft enough to cushion against rough urban terrain. Combined with the front dual and rear air shock absorbers, the Cruiser is well outfitted to deliver excellent ride quality even on poor surfaces.

Emove Cruiser Dual Front Spring Suspension

The foot deck is extra wide too, which means you can position your feet more naturally whilst remaining balanced and in control of the scooter. If you like an added edge of luxury, the Cruiser has a seat attachment that comes at an additional price so you can take the weight off your feet and ride in style if you want to.

Equipped with awesome lighting, the large, bright headlight, matching taillight, and red deck lights increase your visibility in the dark. My favourite lighting addition on the Cruiser is without a doubt the integrated turn signals, which are quite rare on electric scooters. They make signalling easier and safer so you can let others know what you’re doing without having to take your hands off the handlebars.

Emove Cruiser Bright LED Lights

You can operate both the lights and the turn signals from the buttons located in the cockpit. These can be found alongside the loud bell and the LCD panel which gives you visibility over your riding stats.

Available in stylish black, contemporary white, or jazzy orange, the Cruiser is reassuringly sturdy and has great build quality, delivering a smooth and soundless ride for users weighing up to 160 kg. This is a higher weight limit than on most scooters, making it an ideal option for heavier users. It also comes with an IPX6 water-resistant rating which means it can resist a healthy amount of rain so you can get out and about on even the dreariest of days.

Its robust stature does increase the overall weight of the scooter though and at 23.6 kg, the Cruiser isn’t the lightest of scooters. You won’t want to carry it around very often. However, thanks to its foldable handlebars and sturdy folding mechanism, it is compact when collapsed so can be stored in the boot of a car.

Available for £1,249, the Emove Cruiser is a well-rounded and reliable scooter that’ll take the pressure off your weekly commute. It might not be racing-scooter material but its specs are pretty impressive, especially the massive rage it has to offer. This is perfect if you’re looking for something more functional to ride across the city on.

3. Apollo City

Apollo City
Award: Best For Commuting
The Apollo City delivers premium features without the eye-watering price tag attached. It features a top speed of 25 mph as well as an awesome braking system and smooth ride quality. It’s easily adaptable and, thanks to its combination of power and portability, is an excellent urban scooter.
£849.00

Everyone likes a bit of luxury, but do you know what’s even better than buying something with a premium edge? Buying something with a premium edge that won’t blow your budget skyward. The Apollo City is a great example of this. Let me break down what makes this scooter such a steal.

First, let’s talk about speed. This scooter has the desired 25 mph top speed output thanks to its silent 600W motor. It has awesome acceleration too, reaching 15 mph in just 4 seconds. This kind of pace and great torque will easily allow you to match cyclists and cars alike during the busy rush hour period. Plus, with a maximum output of 800W, the high-efficiency motor will allow you to zoom up hills with a 15% grade, even if you’re a heavier adult, weighing closer to the City’s top weight limit of 120 kg.

Apollo City Frame

Considering the kind of acceleration the City has, it’s important that the brakes can match it in power. Thankfully, the City comes with not one but three braking mechanisms, featuring a rear drum brake, front disc brake, and a regenerative electric brake to help slow the motor. Disc brakes are known for being some of the most reliable and efficient brakes out there, whilst drum brakes are sturdy and low maintenance. Together they give you precise control and a stopping distance of just over 3 meters.

The brakes aren’t the only awesome thing about this scooter though; the ride comfort it offers is spot on. It even comes with a detachable seat that is available to purchase at an extra cost if you want to take things to the next level. Its 8.5 inch pneumatic tyres are softer than solid tyres and give better traction on the road. They work alongside the dual-rear and singular front spring suspension to handle any harsh impacts and keep your ride smooth.

Apollo City Spring Suspension and Rear Tire

The foot deck is roomy enough that you won’t need to contort your feet into interesting shapes so they fit and it also has great clearance if you enjoy the occasional bunny hop or two. In fact, despite its name, the City can handle some light off-roading, although its best on smooth urban paths.

Although its legs aren’t quite as long as the Emove Cruiser, the 28 mile range on the City is nothing to sniff at. This is perfect for those of you with medium commutes, although be aware that you’ll see a shorter range of around 22 miles when not riding in Eco mode. Like other scooters from Apollo, the City uses motorbike-inspired Dynavolt battery cells which have been shown to perform just as well as their LG counterparts. When it comes to charging, expect to wait around 8 hours for a full recharge. However, if you opt to purchase the fast charger, this will be cut down to 4 hours.

Weighing 17.7 kg, the City is light enough to be carried and lifted. If you’re looking for a scooter that fuses portability and power, this could very well be it. It features a 3-second folding mechanism for those instances where you need to fold and go in a hurry too. Ideal for taking onto public transport and being easily stored when you reach your destination, the City is a top performer when it comes to portability.

Apollo City Folded

In terms of lights, the City has everything you need to be visible to other road users, including bright front and rear lights with under-deck lighting too. Every part of the City from its lights to the build quality is excellent, and you won’t have to deal with any nerve-wracking rattling whilst riding. It also has an IP54 water-resistant rating which means it’s protected against dust and light splashes. I wouldn’t recommend riding it in heavy rain though.

Apollo City LED Lights

As with most scooters, you can monitor all your important riding stats such as speed, distance, battery, and charge via the display centre, whilst also switching between the different riding modes available. Unique to the City, it comes with the ability to alter some of its minor settings, such as whether it functions as a kick-and-go scooter or has instant acceleration. This can also be changed easily from the display.

Apollo City Command Center

It’s clear that this scooter comes with a whole host of high-quality features and even better, the price doesn’t reflect it. Available for just £849, the Apollo City delivers comfortable ride quality as well as a zippy top speed and an excellent braking system. This is one scooter where you get more than you pay for.

4. Horizon 13

The Horizon 13 is a purpose-built scooter, meant to bring new life to the morning commute with its top speed of 25 mph and good hill-climbing ability. It’s fairly low-maintenance too, so beginners can focus on mastering their new scooter rather than being distracted by the irritations of upkeep.

£690.00 £730.00*

The Horizon 13 is a scooter made with one thing in mind: freeing people like you and me from the dreary day-to-day slog that is the work commute. And let me tell you now, it does a pretty good job of it.

Horizon Unboxing & Review

From its compact design, impressive load-bearing capability, and the perfect blend of spring and hydraulic suspension, join me as I give you an up-close and personal look at what the Horizon has to offer.

With a top speed of 25 mph, you’ll be able to escape the sweaty confines of public transport and escape endless traffic jams. Thanks to the peak output of 800W on the Horizon 13’s motor, you’ll have all the acceleration you need to be able to get ahead of other commuters on the road. It’s certainly no rally scooter and it hasn’t been designed with thrill riding in mind, but it is quick and it gets top marks for reliability and practicality. This is one scooter that won’t leave you trailing behind the competition.

Horizon Outdoor Shot

It even has the power to conquer hills with a 15% grade. You’ll be able to ride up most urban slopes with this scooter. It won’t be able to master some of the steepest inclines you see in places like San Francisco, but average city hills shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge.

Horizon Handlebars

Not only is this a great option for commuters, but it’s also ideal for newcomers to the world of electric scooters. Many of its components require little to no maintenance, which makes it easier for beginners to get to grips with their new mode of transport. For example, the Horizon 13 comes with a front pneumatic and rear solid tyre. The air-filled tyre in the front helps to cushion against obstacles and keep you balanced, but there’s always a chance it could get a flat. With the rear solid tyre, this isn’t a problem. It doesn’t have as much grip or damping as the pneumatic tyre, but you’ll never have to worry about keeping it maintained.

The same can be said of the rear drum brake. When it comes to braking technology, drum brakes are a little outdated than other options like disc brakes or hydraulics, however, they’re much easier to take care of. This is because they’re more resistant to dirt and water, so there’s less chance of them becoming damaged. Combined with the regenerative brake which helps to slow the motor, you’ll still have strong and controlled braking power at your fingertips. I’d still prefer to see a brake located on each wheel but this is sufficient for the most part.

Solid tyres might be easier to take care of, but they do have a reputation for delivering a harsh ride. This is because they don’t provide any cushioning. However, thanks to the front spring and rear hydraulic suspension, the Horizon 13 makes sure you’re comfortable most of the time. This system takes the pressure off the back tyres and helps to protect your joints, however, I wouldn’t recommend riding this scooter over rough terrain too often. You’ll still feel a few of those bigger bumps.

Horizon Off Road

With a top range of 25 miles when ridden in Eco mode, The Horizon 13 is ideal for medium-length commutes. Be warned though — you will see a reduced mileage if you ride aggressively or sit closer to the 13’s top weight limit of 120 kg. Aggressive riding means consistently hitting top speeds or tackling lots of challenging hills. If you moderate this, you’ll be able to conserve your battery more easily.

The Horizon 13 is fully equipped for night riding, featuring three front LED lights in addition to two rear lights which are equally as bright. They also blink when you brake to let others around you know that you’re slowing down.

Horizon LED Lights

The LCD panel on the handlebars is similar to those you find on many scooters at this price range and gives you visibility over your speed, riding mode, and battery level. It’s located next to the trigger-style throttle. This isn’t the most comfortable throttle mechanism but you get used to it pretty quick, giving you that burst of speed when you get going.

Horizon Handlebar Display

For a scooter that is geared more towards commuting, the Horizon 13 is quite heavy, weighing 19 kg This is more than the Apollo City, however, some of its extra weight is negated by how compact it is when folded. This is thanks to its telescopic neck, folding handlebars, and collapsible stem which reduces it down to 38 x 7 x 14” — ideal for storing under your desk, in a corner of your flat, or the boot of your car.

Horizon Folded

It might not be as light as the Apollo City, but it is £159 cheaper and will only cost you £690. As you’ll have noticed, there are some compromises between the two but their stats are fairly similar. In reality, the biggest difference comes from the Horizon 13’s sold rear tyre, which can affect the ride quality.

Despite this, the Horizon 13 is an incredibly well-made scooter that would be the ideal choice for a first-time rider or someone who wants to upgrade from a shared scooter to owning their own. It can reliably get you from A to B and thanks to the speed and acceleration on offer, it can do it very quickly.

5. Emove Touring

Emove Touring

Fancy a scooter with an impressive suspension system, great acceleration, and LG batteries for under £800? This is exactly what the Emove Touring offers. It’s no surprise that it’s one of the best 25 mph scooters, especially because it can support riders up to 140 kg too.

£799.00 £899.00

The Emove Touring is an excellent scooter that offers a comfortable ride with a host of high-quality features and components. It does everything you need it to do, and it doesn’t come with a punishing price tag either.

Emove Touring Frame

Although slightly slower than the other scooters on this list, its motor has a peak output of 600W which not only allows it to reach a top speed of 24 mph but also gives it some pretty impressive torque and acceleration. You’ll be able to hit 15 mph in just 4.5 seconds and maintain your pace when tackling hills of up to 15% which is excellent for a scooter with only one motor. Don’t get me wrong, this is by no means the fastest scooter out there but it’s powerful enough to put a smile on your face and leave you gripping the handlebars.

Because of this, it needs a braking system that can perform. Luckily, the rear drum brake does just that. Although they’re not the most modern braking mechanisms, drum brakes are very reliable as well as being low-maintenance because of their ability to withstand dust, water, and other roadside nasties. This makes it a perfect choice for first-timers.

Emove Touring Rear Lights

In fact, the Touring is accessible to riders of all shapes and sizes, beginners and experienced alike. This comes down to the fact that it can support up to 140 kg, making it a great option for heavier adults who want to ditch public transport and feel the wind in their hair.

However, just because it can support a higher load doesn’t mean that the Touring is a heavy scooter. It weighs 17.7 kg which is light enough to pick up and carry. It also collapses down into a compact package thanks to its foldable handlebars, telescopic stem, and folding neck. This is one scooter you won’t have trouble storing neatly away.

Emove Touring Folded

Here's close up of the folded handlebars:

Emove Touring Folded Handlebars

It’s built for practicality but that doesn’t mean you need to compromise on comfort. The ride quality is exceptionally good for a scooter that comes with a solid rubber tyre in the rear. The front pneumatic tyre does help to combat this by providing some damping and keeping you well-balanced but the real star of the show is the triple front and dual rear spring suspension. That means you’ve got five different shock absorbers working together to keep your riding smooth and plush. Because the wheels are a little small at 8 inches, you’ll need to avoid roads riddled with potholes, but the Touring can handle the majority of road obstacles.

Emove Touring Front Tire and Spring Suspension

The extra spacious foot deck measures 21.8 x 7” and adds riding comfort, giving you plenty of room to arrange your feet. It also has high clearance so you can jump off curbs without the worry of bottoming out. You can even attach a seat that can be purchased at an additional cost. This is ideal if you like the option of sitting back and relaxing or if you’ve got a particularly long commute and want to take the weight off your feet.

Emove Touring Wide Foot Deck

Although the Touring isn’t designed for super long journeys, its 25 mile range is perfectly suited for medium commutes. Even better, it comes with an LG battery, which is one of the best you can get. You can rely on your scooter to perform, and won’t have to worry about your battery suddenly giving up the ghost and burning out on you. It also means you won’t have to wait an age for the Touring to recharge — it’ll re-juice in around 3-4 hours.

The cockpit setup on the Touring is a simple one, featuring a bell to alert other road users as well as a finger throttle and standard LCD panel where you can view your riding stats and adjust some of your P-settings. The finger throttle isn’t always the most comfortable, but with the Touring you have the option to upgrade and change to either a twist or thumb throttle, although you’ll have to pay extra for this. I prefer thumb throttles as I find their design more ergonomic.

Emove Touring Handlebars

So, let’s talk money. How much will the Touring cost you? This scooter is exceptionally good value and has a price tag of only £799. Okay, so you’ll have to compromise on the back tyre and single-wheel braking mechanism, however, you’re getting incredibly thorough suspension and a high-quality LG battery in return. In addition to that, it's a portable urban scooter that delivers a very comfortable ride. In my opinion, the trade-off is worth it.
